K-12 Counselor

La Plata R-II School District has an opening for a K-12 School Counselor in the 2024-2025 school year. 


SUMMARY: Counsels individuals and provides group educational services, provide a comprehensive guidance program for students in grades K-12 and specifically provide activities to meet the needs of their assigned case-load; consult with teachers, staff and parents to enhance their effectiveness in helping students; and provide support to other school educational programs.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned.)

Provides support services for students in the areas of academic programs, team teaching, school rules, and other matters / Assesses and counsels students based on observations, conversations, and test results / Provides personal counseling for students and groups to help them learn greater self-understanding, acceptance of responsibility, and better decision-making skills / Provides group counseling for interaction, communication, and support skill development / Administers tests and interprets results in areas such as organization, memory skills, aptitude, and preferences / Serves as district homeless coordinator / Conducts evening conferences for support groups, test interpretations with parents, new student orientation/with parents / Consults with parents and teachers / Counsels groups or individual students through the development of educational and career plans / Counsels small groups and individual students with problems; refer severe problems to appropriate community resources / Consults with teachers, staff and parents regarding meeting the developmental needs of students / Evaluates and revise the building counseling program / Conducts counseling activities in the classroom in conjunction with administration and teachers / Consults with teachers to facilitate the infusion of counseling learning activities into the regular curricula / Responds to crisis situations when appropriate / Serves as district testing coordinator / Facilitates ACT review days prior to each nationally scheduled ACT / Serves as building testing coordinator for state mandated MAP exams / Participates with the College Night and Financial Planning Event for students/parents / Provides scholarship information for students and parents through announcements and our district’s website / Coordinates enrollment of students and development of 4-year educational plans / Develops, revises, and implements the master schedule / Enroll and orient new students to the district throughout the school year / Schedules 12th grade parent/student conferences---providing information/resources for post-secondary/technical education / Conference with parents on an as need basis, either school initiated or parent initiated / Maintain consistently a professional attitude in the handling of confidential materials


REQUIRED: Master's Degree in School Counseling. Appropriate Missouri Certification. 


PREFERRED: Experience in K-12 school counseling.


10 month position. Coaching positions available.

7-12 FACS Teacher



Description:


The La Plata R-II school district is accepting applications for a 7-12 FACS teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. Teachers will plan, instruct, and assess the district curriculum and will be accountable for organization and maintaining classroom management to ensure maximum student engagement and learning. The ideal candidate will have a willingness to build positive relationships with all stakeholders. The candidate will be a team player with a strong understanding of the Missouri Learning Standards along with knowledge and use of research-based instructional strategies. The candidate will participate in District and Building Professional Development opportunities, participate in grade level and building meetings, work successfully as part of a team in a highly collaborative manner, have strong classroom management skills and interpersonal relations, and understand and implement Missouri Learning Standards into the curriculum. Willingness to sponsor FCCLA club for the district. EDUCATIONAL/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE PREFERRED: Current Missouri Certification in FACS Education. Experience teaching in the junior high/high school setting.
