La Plata High School Information!

Parents, Guardians, and Students,

I am excited to share that our district is implementing a district testing program called i-Ready.  We will partake in the district testing this week and next week during homeroom.  Below are some FAQ's as we embark on this journey!

What is i-Ready?
i-Ready is an online program that will help us determine your child’s strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet your child where they are and provides us with data to inform instruction.

The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions based on student responses. Each item a student receives is based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier ones. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade but to determine how to best support their learning.

What can I (the parent) do to help?
To help prepare your child for the i-Ready Diagnostic, encourage them to:
• Get a good night’s sleep and eat a full breakfast the day of the assessment.
• Try their best on each question and try not to rush.
• Try not to worry about questions to which they do not know the answers—remind them that it is expected that they will only get about half of the questions correct.
• Be respectful of other students who take longer to finish.

What happens next?
The i-Ready Diagnostic will provide results that help teachers identify your child’s strengths and determine next steps for instruction. We look forward to sharing these results with you throughout the year and providing a learning experience that will engage your child while teaching important skills and concepts.

If you have any questions about i-Ready, please do not hesitate to contact me or the school. You can also learn more about i-Ready by visiting i-ReadyCentral.com/FamilyCenter.

As always, thank you for your continued support and for being a partner in your child’s learning! It is much appreciated.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Smoot

La Plata High School Principal

1.  Give the speaker your utmost cooperation and attention.  Phones should be put away and on silent or turned off.  The cell phone policy is in effect in an assembly setting.

2.  Treat performers as guests.

3.  Applaud only when applause is in order.

4.  At the close of the program, wait for the signal to leave, then proceed back to the

     proper classroom, quietly and orderly.

5.  The rule restricting public display of affection applies during assemblies.

6.  Any student acting in a rude disrespectful manner will be escorted out of the assembly

and will not be allowed to attend any assemblies for the remainder of the school year.

CELLULAR PHONES:  Cell phones, smartwatches, headphones/earbuds, and other electronic devices must be turned off during instructional time and placed in holders in the classroom (at teacher discretion).

Devices may: be utilized for instructional purposes as directed by faculty and be accessed during the passing time between classes and at lunch. Any improper use of devices will result in the loss of privilege and is grounds for suspension and disciplinary review. School personnel may confiscate these devices and submit them to the office. Students can be cited for a cell phone violation if the school discerns a cell phone has been used to contact a parent or some other party during instructional time.

1 st Offense: cell phone will be turned in to the Principal, student can pick up at end of day.

2 nd Offense: cell phone is turned into the Principal, parents will be called to come and pick up the cell phone after school and the student will receive 1 Monday school assignment (Level 2 infraction, may have a greater consequence depending on student discipline record).
